Jingle Bells? Really?

This morning my husband treated me and the kids to breakfast at Shoney's before we took them to school to celebrate the news that I received last night that Wheels of Love has made its way to AUSTRALIA!  How awesome is that?

Anyways, while eating our breakfast, or course, the music is playing over the speakers, and all of a sudden, I heard it...Jingle Bells!  At 7:00 a.m. on November 2nd-the Candy from the 31st is still fresh in the little bags, and the world has completely skipped over Thanksgiving and moved straight on to Christmas.

Typical.  We as Christians are not nearly as thankful as we should be, so why should we expect anything different from the world?

I Thessalonians 5:18 says, "In every thing give thanks;" That's really hard to do sometimes.  When you lose your job, give thanks.  When you've lost a loved one, give thanks.  When you're heart is broken in two, give thanks.  It is definitely easier said than done.

The only way that we can do this is by looking up.

I filled in for a high school teacher this past Thursday, and for her twelfth grade Bible class she left an assignment for them to create a Children's Book on Noah's Ark, because they told her that they didn't know the story.  I thought, "Are you kidding me?" But in today's generation, it is entirely possible, even in the Bible belt.

So, I wrote down ten simple statements on the board, summing up the story of Noah's Ark.  But, as I wrote them, I elaborated on some of the typology found in the account.  There's so much there!  One of the instructions that I gave them was to illustrate the Ark according to the description found in Genesis Chapter 6.  There was to be one door in the side, and one window facing up.

This was because if Noah and his family had looked around the Ark, all they would have seen was death and carnage and devastation-the dire circumstances of the day.  I'm sure that the time they spent on the Ark was nerve-racking, but, at the end of their confinement, they definitely had a lot to be thankful for.

So, for we as Christians to be able to give thanks for every thing, we have to take our eyes off of all of the circumstances that surround us, and keep looking up!  If we look up to God, we remember His precious gift of Salvation.  If we've lost EVERYTHING, if we still have Jesus living in our hearts, WE STILL HAVE EVERYTHING!  We have EVERY THING to be thankful for!

So, even though Wal-Mart and Shoney's has skipped Thanksgiving and moved right on to Christmas, don't forget to thank the Lord for what's He's done for you today!

The Collage: A Collection of Short Stories

From The Collage

"When told that I had to go back to college, my heart fell. At that point in my life, I had two teenage children and I had a two-hour daily commute. Adding more college classes to my already hectic schedule was not something that I wanted to do. However, as it is with most of life’s twists and turns, this route was one that was divinely designed. Even though I had written two books already, these assignments really brought out something in me and my writing. I learned more about myself than I ever wanted to admit! I thank God for those two years of late night work. Some of these pieces will make you laugh; some will make you think; and some will shock you! So, my words to you are, enjoy the ride."
